  • Safety is one of our top priorities. We have secure campus entry points, regular emergency drills and guardians trained in emergency response. Our visitor management system ensures that all guests are signed in and monitored.

  • Our school day begins at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 3:55 p.m., with after-school programs available for families needing extended care. For early release days, dismissal is at 12:55 p.m.

  • In Hernando County School District, technology is seamlessly integrated into classrooms to enhance teaching and learning across all grade levels. Students benefit from a one-to-one Microsoft laptop program, giving them daily access to powerful tools like Microsoft 365 and Canva for Education. Teachers use interactive smartboards such as Promethean and Newline to deliver dynamic lessons, while platforms like Canvas LMS and Nearpod support personalized instruction, real-time feedback, and student engagement. Classrooms are also equipped with audio enhancement systems to ensure every student can hear clearly, improving focus and accessibility. These tools foster collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking, preparing students for success in a digital world while promoting responsible digital citizenship.

  • Challenger K-8 is proud to be a public magnet school in the Hernando County School District. Because of our unique focus and high demand, enrollment is not automatic – you’ll need to apply through our magnet application process.

    🎯 Here’s How It Works:

    • All students must apply through our lottery and/or portfolio process.

    • The magnet application window typically opens in mid-October and remains open for approximately one month.

    • When you apply, you’re applying for the following school year – so plan ahead!

We encourage families to explore our programs, attend informational sessions, and prepare any required materials early. Once the application window opens, you’ll find the registration link to the SchoolMint Website.

Principal’s Message
Principal Maiorini brings over 12 years of educational leadership and a passion for student success, driving excellence and innovation throughout Challenger K8.

Dear Families and Community Members,

It is my honor and joy to welcome you to the Challenger K8 website!

At Challenger K8, we pride ourselves on being a School of Excellence from Florida Department of Education. All students, teachers, and staff are valued, supported, and empowered to reach their highest potential. We believe that every person has the capacity to lead, and through our commitment as a Leader in Me school, we cultivate leadership in all members of our community by embracing The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.

Every day, our students and staff work with purpose and passion. We set goals, we track growth, and we celebrate progress. Whether in academics, character development, or personal achievements, we foster a mindset of continuous improvement.

Most importantly, our school is a place where love, encouragement, and belonging are at the heart of everything we do. We strive to build a culture where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to do their best and every adult feels supported in guiding them there.

Thank you for being a part of our incredible school community. Together, we will continue to lead, grow, and succeed following our motto, “Ad Astra Per Aspera” which means through hard work to the stars!

With gratitude and excitement,
Ms. Rosemarie Maiorini
